(August 24, 2016) – The new Emergency Alert System Operating Handbook released by the Federal Communications Commission has left many broadcasters with questions about exactly what they are supposed to do with it. The handbook is required to be kept at a station’s control point and has many pages where stations can fill in what their particular actions should entail when dealing with routine EAS tests or real activations.
On August 23, 2016 Sage Alerting Systems issued a response to the new handbook “…intended to provide background for owners of the Sage Digital ENDEC Model 3644, specifically, to the individual responsible for filling in those blanks.” Read the 5-page Sage statement here. If your station utilizes a Sage ENDEC it would be a good idea to read this document carefully.
